The Georgetown AI Association (GAIA) is a student-led organization dedicated to advancing the understanding and development of artificial intelligence policy. We provide a collaborative platform for students, faculty, and industry professionals to engage in research, workshops, and discussions on AI technologies and their policy implications.

We are a group of Georgetown University students and alumni focused on policies to reduce risks from advanced AI.

Recent advances in AI surprised many observers. We expect more surprises to come, and we think society needs to do more to prepare for them.

As AI models advance in capability, we expect their impact on society to grow. Managed well, such advances can offer benefits in fields as diverse as education, medicine, and clean energy. However, they could also pose serious risks by failing to perform as expected in critical applications, or by helping malicious actors launch cyberattacks, spread disinformation, or develop biological weapons.

We think that reducing the risks of advanced AI is one of the most important questions of our time. We also think it is a highly interesting problem, with many opportunities for people to make progress on it through technical work, policy research, and policymaking.

The Georgetown AI Association is keen to support students and affiliates of Georgetown who want to work in this field.

GAIA aims to foster interdisciplinary learning, support career development, and promote ethical considerations in AI innovation. Through events, projects, and community outreach, we strive to bridge the gap between academic study and real-world AI challenges.

We run an eight-week fellowship to introduce students to policy issues in AI. We expect many fellows to begin or continue work on AI policy through research or internships.

We are not currently running our AI Policy Fellowship for Fall 2025. We will resume the Fellowship in Spring 2026.

Come back in a few months when applications open!

In addition to the fellowship, GAIA hosts socials, speaker events, 1-1 career advising, and other programs that help students build professional experience and discover careers in AI policy and technical AI research.
